Administration of Subcutaneous Injection (Insulin)

The Course

This is an excellent introduction to Diabetes management. A must for all new staff and refresher for existing workers. Participants will learn about the different types of Diabetes, diet, complications and how to check a person’s Blood Glucose Level. (BGL)

Insulin administration can be included.

NDIS Skills Descriptors

This course meets the requirements for support workers according to the NDIS Practice Standards 2022

Confirm client details and need for injection

Follow personal hygiene and infection control procedures

Blood Glucose Levels (BGL) – range, checking a persons BGL

Diabetes management – diet, medication, lifestyle, complications

Follow safe injecting procedures using insulin pens

Medication checking and recording requirements

Signs of adverse reactions and action required

Sharps safety and safe needle disposal

Practical Activities

Attendees will have an opportunity to practice checking Blood Glucose Level’s (BGL) using a lancing device and BGL monitor.

If insulin administration is included attendees will be provided with a pre-loaded insulin pen to practice subcutaneous injection.

Duration of the course is 3.5 hours

Attendees will receive a certificate on completion of the course.

Certificates are valid for one year.
